Blast Cleaning

Industrial Blast cleaning
Blast cleaning is a process in which we remove paint, rust, mill scale etc from a surface. We use a range of different blast materials to meet the required specification.

Blast cleaning cleans metals for re-use and for applying fresh coating to a clean base. We use various materials to blast, such as chilled iron, garnet, recycled glass, and glass bead, to remove any paint, rust and mill scale from your materials.

We work to all British Standards in accordance with BS EN ISO 8501-1.
All of this takes place in our 17m x 7.5m in-house blast shop.

The standard grades of cleanliness for abrasive blast cleaning in accordance with BS EN ISO 8501-1 are:
Sa 1 – Light blast cleaning
Sa 2 – Thorough blast cleaning
Sa 2½ – Very thorough blast cleaning
Sa 3 – Blast cleaning to visually clean steel

Specifications for bridge steelwork usually require either Sa 2½ or Sa 3 grades.
